Different Types of Musical Instruments
According to their type, Musical Instruments can be divided into four categories, which are as follows:
- String Instruments
- Woodwind Instruments
- Brass Instruments
- Percussion Instruments
- Keyboard Instruments
- Electronic Instruments
When strings are pulled, bowed, or struck, they vibrate, creating sound for stringed instruments. The harp, violin, cello, and guitar are a few examples.
- Double Bass
Woodwind instruments produce sound by forcing air over or through their apertures, frequently with the use of reeds. A few common examples are the flute, clarinet, saxophone, and oboe, each with its own tones and playing styles.
- English Horn
Players of brass instruments make sound by buzzing their lips into a mouthpiece, which causes vibrations in the instrument’s tubing. Brass instruments like the trumpet, trombone, French horn, and tuba are well-known for producing loud, resonant tones.
- French Horn
Instruments used for percussion produce sound by striking, slapping, or scraping. This broad category includes instruments like drum sets, xylophones, tambourines, and djembes that add rhythm, texture, and vitality to musical works.

- Electric Keyboard
Through the use of electronic circuitry and digital technologies, electronic instruments make sound. Modern music production tools including synthesizers, electronic drum sets, MIDI controllers, and digital audio workstations (DAWs) provide a variety of alternatives for generating and modifying sounds.
